We went on a hunt for a Christmas Tree this Sunday and had one heck of a time finding one. Maybe we started too late, but the couple places we tried were expensive, closed, or had crappy trees.
We finally went to Wal-Mart, of all places, and got a tree for 25 bucks. The tree is a little small and has a double trunk (which made for a pain in the ass when putting it in the tree stand), but decent enough for us.
Last year we went to Gaver Tree Farm and cut down a tree. That one was much better and paid for by my wife’s old work.
Going to a farm and hunting down your favorite tree and then cutting it down yourself is fun. Just be careful, my parents got some kind of poison oak or ivy from the last live tree they had and have had a fake one ever since.
If your late in getting your tree, like we were, this site provides a listing of Christmas tree sellers in Frederick County.
Speaking of Christmas Trees, check out this article from the Gazette on a collection drive called Trees for Troops. “The Trees for Troops collection effort, organized through the National Christmas Tree Association, drew more than 3,500 live trees for U.S. military bases worldwide, including about four dozen from one Buckeystown farmer.”
That sounds like a great cause, glad to see Frederick chipping in to support the troops. Happy tree hunting to all those still searching!
